The Lucky Shots’ luck has run out:
Now we are The Unlucky Shots

So here’s the story: we used to be called The Lucky Shots. Then we found out there’s another group using that name, out west, apparently, where the sun is bright, the egos are large, and cease-and-desist emails grow wild and free.

While they’ve been busy trademarking nouns, we’ve been busy making actual music. Still, rather than waste more energy arguing with strangers over who’s luckier, we decided to skip the drama and go full truth-in-advertising: We are now The Unlucky Shots™.

Same band, same songs, same odd smell in the practice space. Just slightly more cursed, and way more likely to roll our eyes if we hear the phrase “pending trademark dispute.”

So cheers to our West Coast namesake. May their luck hold. We’ll be over here doing what we do best, making noise and laughing about it.

You can find our music at www.theunluckyshots.com and we will be back up on streaming services soon. So, shots fired, but we’re good.

On a serious note: to my creative friends out there, take steps to secure your name and intellectual property sooner rather than later. You can’t rely on the other person to be nice about it.

Four men posing for a photo under a wooden ceiling decorated with string lights. The man on the left is partially visible, smiling and holding a guitar. The second man from the left is wearing a beanie and leaning forward. The third man is dressed in a suit and tie, smiling widely. The man on the right is wearing glasses and a jacket. Text at the top says 'The Lucky Shots,' and text at the bottom says 'TEMPORARILY OFF STREAMING.'

Lucky Shots Temporarily off Streaming

Long story short: another band with the same name filed a trademark and had all our music taken off streaming.

They could have reached out to me.

We could've had a laugh.

But why choose friendship when you can choose lawyers?

I just learned the hard way that if you don’t register your band/project name, someone else can (even from across the country) and your music can disappear from streaming overnight. Would not recommend.

So please: claim your name, and if you can, trademark it.

It’s way cheaper than losing the identity you’ve built and spending the time, energy, and money after the fact. Learn from my headache. Lock your name down before someone else does.

For now you can still listen at our bandcamp page:

Thank you and take care of your shit!

New Album “Second Tongue” available everywhere now!

Second Tongue is a collection of songs that span a lifetime.

It tells the story of the voyage we all make from the first departure to the final arrival.

You embarked on an adventure
You discovered a world of wonder
You dreamed great dreams
You spent time alone
You learned balance
You were burned
You were loved
You got older
You got distracted
You kept walking day and night to get back home

This album is the first time I've taken The Unlucky Shots™ live band (featuring Anand Nayak, Jim Bliss, and Mike Benoit) into the studio, and I'm immensely pleased, proud, and grateful for all they put into these songs. You will be hard pressed to find better bandmates than these fine gentlemen.

A band performs live music in a cozy venue, featuring a guitarist singing into a microphone, a drummer playing behind a drum set, and a bassist playing with a phone, with framed posters on the wall behind them.

What does it mean to be “Lucky”?

If you consider the vastness of things, just the fact that you experience even one average day of your life seems pretty darn lucky. Even the bad days are really secret gifts, hiding their joy like clouds in front of the sun.

Music is one of the ways I remind myself of how lucky I am every day
